
The Valentine Richmond History Center launched Richmond History Makers in 2005 to annually recognize, honor and celebrate those everyday citizens and outstanding organizations that are making significant contributions to the greater Richmond region.
Public nominations are accepted each year beginning on May 1st and ending on June 30th. Nominees should be individuals, companies and organizations who are benefiting our community by mentoring best practices, leading successful initiatives and contributing positively through innovative methods. Nominees should be selected based upon distinction in one of the following categories:
Nominee will have enhanced educational opportunities for citizens, improved academic achievement, or ensured a safe, constructive learning environment.
Nominee will have demonstrated innovation and vision in making the Richmond region a better place to live, work, or visit.
Nominee will have endeavored to bring together regional entities to creat a new synergy and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Nominee will have shown a commitment to promoting diversity, access and opportunity for all.
Nominee will have worked to address problems, develop initiatives, or make lasting improvements that result in stronger, more stable communities.

Each of the five honorees will be recognized at the 2013 Richmond History Makers Celebration on Tuesday, October 15th at the Valentine Richmond History Center.
